Summary of the Polish-Lithuanian youth exchange event on 14-23 July, 2008

The idea of „Be Green“ project was a result of practical eco-friendly educational project activities implemented by children and youth in their native Historical Regional Park of Dieveniskes, South East of Lithuania. Their involvement into cleaning-up activities had proved that it was impossible to avoid disgusting pollution in their Motherland without voluntary work. Partners from Sejny, Poland, had accumulated their civic experience mostly by participating in social and cultural activities. In July‘2008, young people aged 13-18 promoted protective attitudes and ideas of cleaning up consumptional waste. They involved local people into co-operation. Altogether the youth shared their experientially accumulated know-how of volunteering practice. Through planning and implementing the intended activities participants learned to consider cultural differentness, to align and readjust to diverse out-looks, to maintain the dialog and act together. Participants enriched their intercultural proficiency and promoted the positive collaboration of two neighbouring countries in their local and educational communities. Social partners - local institutions were engaged in the “Be Green” activities.
